Child labour in the urban informal sector in three governorates of Jordan

This 2014 rapid assessment provide information on the dynamics and characteristics of child labourers who live in urban environments in Jordan and who work in the informal employment sector in Jordan, including both Jordanian and Syrian children.

The study found out that child labour in Amman, Mafraq and Irbid affects mainly male children, who work long days and weeks. The income from child labourers is found to be a significant source of income for many households. The study found out that the main causes of child labor are economic need, attitudes that do not value education and for Syrians their displacement.

Recommendations of the report focus on the role of education, cash assistance, awareness raising and alternative support mechanisms.
