Children working on the streets of Ankara: problems and needs

The problem of children working on the streets is one of the major problems of child welfare field. This problem in Turkey has become more complicated with the arrival of Syrian children.


This study has been carried out with Turkish and Syrian children who are working on the streets of Ankara and with their families. To be able to understand the different aspects of the phenomenon and to reach the reliable and valid suggestions about the solution, ILO also interviewed workers and representatives from non-governmental organizations and public institutions. The main aims of the study are to examine the general characteristics of the children working on the streets of Ankara, to find out the risks that children encounter, to provide suggestions to the policy makers and raise awareness of the society.
